Context

Search for Common Ground, with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), has embarked on a research project to undertake a conflict analysis for a better understanding of the conflict dynamics in five districts of Herat, Balkh, and Kabul provinces and analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the overall level of conflict, violence, and social cohesion. The underlying assumption is that in order to strengthen the front-line COVID-19 defense, provide collective solutions to the pandemic, and enhance social protection, we need to understand what the barriers to accessing services in difficult-to-reach areas are, as well as the needs of those who are most vulnerable, and how they are impacted by conflict dynamics and social cohesion trends emerging as the pandemic unfold.

Core Objectives:

Create a better understanding of the conflict dynamics in five districts of Herat, Balkh, and Kabul provinces and analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the overall level of conflict, violence, and social cohesion in the country.

Expected outcomes of the project:

  1. National and international stakeholders have a better understanding of the conflict dynamics in the targeted districts.
  2. National and international stakeholders have a better understanding of the impact of COVID-19 on the overall level of conflict, violence, and social cohesion in the country.
